Wild Wonders: Poetry Competition

🌿 Wild Wonders: Poetry Competition
Our KS3 and KS4 students have recently taken part in the Wild Wonders Poetry Competition organised by Young Writers, and we are incredibly proud of the creativity and imagination they have shown.
Students explored the fascinating world of rainforest animals through acrostic poetry, carefully choosing words to bring their creatures to life and experimenting with poetic techniques. From powerful gorillas and stealthy panthers to graceful turtles and fierce tigers, the poems captured the beauty and danger of the rainforest environment whilst also encouraging students to think about the lives of endangered animals and threats they face in the wild.
Some standout lines included:
“Sunshine reflecting off his fur / Under a canopy of foliage”
— Ethan B, KS3
“The leaves crunch underneath its feet”
— George H, KS3
“Agile like a wild rabbit, swinging like Tarzan.”
— Bradley P, KS4
We were especially impressed by the range of ideas used throughout the entries. Bradley P’s energetic Gorilla poem painted a lively picture of a playful yet powerful animal, while George H’s Panther poem created tension and suspense through careful description. Frankie B’s Turtle poem explored the calm depths of the ocean, and Star A’s Sumatran Rhino poem captured the unstoppable force of one of nature’s most endangered animals.
Other fantastic entries included Callum E’s vivid Gorilla poem, Ethan B’s majestic Sunda Tiger piece, and Laylah W’s imaginative Amur Leopard poem which was filled with excitement and personality.
We are incredibly proud of every student who entered and represented the school so brilliantly. Poems have the chance to be published in a national anthology, and the favourite entry will win an animal adoption-pack prize.
Well done to all our talented young poets, we cannot wait to hear the competition results!
