Local AP Programme

Vocational Alternative Provision

Rivers Education Support Centre offers a Vocational Programme of Alternative Provision for Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 students attending secondary schools across DSPL 3 and DSPL 4.

Working with a range of specialist providers, we can offer young people access to high-quality, off-site alternative provision designed to provide engaging and practical learning opportunities outside the traditional classroom environment.

All providers have been quality assured, with the necessary safeguarding checks completed to help ensure that placements are appropriate and safe for young people.

Keeping schools informed

Schools remain informed throughout the placement.

Rivers will provide:

  • Daily registration information
  • Feedback following each session
  • A brief overview of the session attended for the school's records

This helps schools maintain oversight of attendance and the young person's engagement with their placement.

Referral Process

We've kept the referral process straightforward:

1. Express an interest
Contact Rivers to express an interest in an Alternative Provision placement for a young person.

2. Complete a referral form
The referring school completes and submits the Local Alternative Provision Referral Form.

3. Attend a set-up meeting
The young person attends a set-up meeting to establish whether the provision is suitable and appropriate for their needs.

4. Complete the Service Level Agreement
A Service Level Agreement must be signed by a member of staff with the authority to approve the associated Alternative Provision fees.

5. Placement begins
Once the arrangements have been agreed, the young person can begin their placement.

Who can be referred?

Referrals are open to students from DSPL 3 and DSPL 4, including young people with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), following consultation with the proposed provision.
