We hope you all had a good easter break.
When you come to Rivers, there's people you can talk to. You never feel lonely. Even when lessons get tough, the staff make them enjoyable
JL - Year 11 - Hoddesdon
Rivers Education Support Centre exists to help children in East Herts and Broxbourne who are experiencing difficulties in mainstream schools because of their behaviour. An extremely experienced team of outreach staff work in primary and secondary schools throughout the area with children who are in danger of permanent exclusion. They are highly valued by the mainstream schools and have supported hundreds of children who have successfully completed their education in mainstream school.
Some children have needs which are better met in a smaller environment where there are opportunities for bolstering self esteem and more specialised help.
Our KS3 Centre at Hertford has provision for 16 children and exists to prepare excluded pupils for re-integration to mainstream or undergo assessment for special education.
Our KS4 Centre at Hoddesdon caters for 14-16 year olds who are unlikely to complete education in a mainstream setting. We hope that time at Rivers ESC will allow pupils to improve their self esteem and achieve their goals in a supportive environment. The dedicated staff help them to negotiate instead of demand and to develop skills that will aid them to take their places in society when they finish statutory schooling.
The biggest lesson the pupils need to learn is that actions bring consequences and that making the right choice can have an effect on themselves, their families and the rest of their lives.
