Staff and students at Key Stage 3 celebrated World Book Day on Thursday 2nd March in style! It was a day that truly celebrated the joy, escapism and understanding of the world that reading provides us with.
Across all lessons that day, students were given the opportunity to ‘Drop Everything and Read’. We selected the novel Stone Cold – a gripping story of a homeless teenager and a terrifying ex-army officer. We were all extremely impressed with the respect of the students at these times. They showed great maturity, confidence and fluency when reading aloud as a class. A special thank you to all staff leading these sessions and well done to Mr Ricketts who students said had “an excellent reading voice!”.
Mrs Fraser was in fine form as Gangsta Granny, whipping up a fantastic feast in time for our break-time celebrations and Guess the Bookshelf competition! We had a wonderful time in the social area (decorated beautifully by the students) where students received their World Book Day book and a hot chocolate to take home and enjoy. We also have three ‘Guess the Book in the Jar’ competitions running until 28th March: one for students, one for staff and one for visitors. Please do participate if you are visiting Key Stage 3 as there is a £5 voucher up for grabs!
Of course, it wouldn’t be World Book Day without dressing up! Staff embraced characters from Dr Suess, This is Going to Hurt, Guys and Dolls, Gangsta Granny and The Hunger Games. A great team effort. Well done all!
